Lynnfield Families,

I hope your summer has been filled with the things that make the season special. Whether that included time with family and friends, days at the beach or pool, vacations and adventures, walks and bike rides, camps, books, or ice cream, I trust everyone found time to slow down and enjoy those moments. Most of all, I hope these past few months have given you a chance to relax and make memories with those you care about.

With all of the beautiful weather we've had, it’s hard to believe that summer is already winding down and the start of a new school year is just around the corner. Our first day for students in Grades 1-12 is Wednesday, September 2nd, and our schools are starting to come alive once again as our faculty and staff begin to prepare to welcome students and families back to Lynnfield Public Schools. I am especially looking forward to seeing our schools filled with students again to begin another year together as a Lynnfield community. We're excited to get the 2026-2027 school year started.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, educators, and schools. As always I genuinely welcome your input and look forward to engaging with you around your experiences in our schools, and I encourage families to stay connected and involved.

Putting Our Strategic Plan Into Action

This school year marks the first year of implementing our new Strategic Plan. More than a document, it is our roadmap for the work ahead and will guide the decisions, priorities, and actions of Lynnfield Public Schools in the coming years. At the heart of the plan are four pillars: Excellence, Belonging, Innovation, and Community. These pillars reflect our shared commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, feel a strong sense of belonging, prepare for the future, and be connected to the community around them.

Each year teachers and administrators establish formal goals for the upcoming year around the areas of student learning, professional practice, and school/district improvement. Going forward these goals will directly link to our strategic plan to ensure cohesion. In June, I proposed my four goals to the School Committee. Each goal directly draws on various first year action steps within the strategic plan in an effort to move district forward productively.

Goal 1 - Student Learning: Conduct a comprehensive review of K-12 Science and STEM/Computer Science curricula which links to the strategic plan initiative of Academic Excellence for All.

Goal 2 - Professional Practice: Strengthen district communication and stakeholder engagement by implementing a consistent districtwide communication and family engagement structure, which connects to the strategic plan initiative of Partnerships with Families and Community.

Goal 3 - District Improvement Goal: Lead a districtwide review and strengthening of social emotional learning, student support practices, and behavior response by evaluating K-12 SEL practices, which connects to the strategic plan initiative of Thriving, Inclusive, and Empowering Schools.

Goal 4 - District Improvement Goal: Increase the frequency and consistency of my school based presence by conducting an average of two 90 minute school visits per week to monitor student behavior, belonging, engagement, and overall school climate which links to the strategic plan initiative of Academic Excellence for All.

Throughout this school year, you will see these priorities come to life in our classrooms, schools, and district initiatives. We will also provide regular updates throughout the year so that our families can see where we are making progress, where we are learning, and where our work will continue.
 

2026-2027 New Staff Members

This year we are excited to welcome 18 new teachers and five new administrators across the district. While our administrators have been getting acclimated since July, our new teachers will come together this Wednesday to begin their journey in Lynnfield by participating in the first day of our year long, new teacher orientation program. In this program, new teachers work with a mentor teacher at their school and begin to:
  • Integrate themselves with the culture of our schools and district
  • Share best teaching practices and resources
  • Foster a culture of professional growth and relationship building
  • Set their students and themselves up for a successful year

New Summer Street School Playground

We are very fortunate and excited to have a new, inclusive, and accessible playground at Summer Street School for use by our kindergarteners, preschoolers, and community members. Our DPW has worked diligently throughout August to ensure that it will be ready for the opening of school. We are also so grateful to all of our donors who made the playground a reality for our students and community, and especially to our Summer Street School PTO leaders who spent countless hours advocating for and leading the playground project efforts.

ParentSquare

New Communication Platform
We’re excited to share that we have adopted a new communication platform called ParentSquare to help keep you better informed and more connected with your school community.

With ParentSquare, you will receive all school and classroom messages in one place and translated into your preferred language, whether by email, text, app, or web. You will also be able to:
  • Stay up to date on news and events
  • Fill out forms and permission slips
  • Sign up for events and volunteer opportunities
  • View calendar items and photos from your school

To get the most out of ParentSquare, we encourage you to download the free mobile app, available for iOS and Android. You can also access ParentSquare from your web browser at www.parentsquare.com.

Over the course of the past few weeks, two invitations to join our district on ParentSquare have been sent out via email. Another invitation will be sent out by the end of this week. If you do not receive this email, please reach out to our Technology Director, Rochelle Cooper - cooperr@lynnfield.k12.ma.us for assistance.

New Website
To further streamline district communication, ParentSquare will also host our new website. Our websites (district and schools) are currently live but are under construction, so please continue to bear with us as we work on them!

MCAS Parent Portal Information

The MCAS Family Portal is an online tool provided by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) that allows parents and guardians to conveniently view their child's state test scores. Instead of waiting for paper reports to arrive in the mail, families can log into the portal to access current preliminary test results as well as historical scores from prior years.

This week you will receive an email from LPS containing your child's unique 12-digit registration code, which you will need to set up your account on the MCAS Family Portal. Instructions on how to log in and access the portal will also be included in this email.
 

Lynnfield Community Schools

Lynnfield Community Schools had another summer of tremendous programming for our students. LCS offers a variety of programs to support and inspire our students throughout the school year as well including:
  • Before and after school childcare
  • Childcare for early release days
  • Enrichment programs in arts, sports, STEAM, and more
  • Theatre opportunities through LCS Theatre Academy
  • Music lessons through Lynnfield Youth Music School

Busing

Bus routes will be finalized later this week. We also will continue to use BusRight as our busing app which is available for free to all families. The app provides real time location information to enhance bus tracking and communication for families. If you have any questions, contact Bella Herook at herooki@lynnfield.k12.ma.us
