Superintendent's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Our District Strategy is the roadmap for the work that is being accomplished throughout the district. The four major areas of focus are:

  • Build Leadership Capacity:  Cultivate an expertise and skill set to embrace a shared vision of excellence for effective teaching practices in our classrooms

  • Educator Growth:  Create a Professional Learning Community rich in professional development focused on high expectations and continuous improvement for professional practice

  • Curriculum and Instruction:  Support continuous curriculum development and instructional excellence with a shared vision for high quality outcomes and expectations

  • Assessment and Accountability:  Leverage district and state data to drive and  support continuous student achievement and growth

  • Meeting Needs of all Students:  Allocate necessary resources including hiring and retaining highly qualified professionals to support academic and social and emotional programming for all students

These five indicators drive the topics that we concentrate on during our professional development days throughout the year. Each of the School Improvement Plans presented to the School Committee last spring are intentionally tied to the District Strategy. The School Improvement Plans have a shared goal on the topic of curriculum development and alignment. It is important that we build a continuum for our curricula free from redundancy and gaps. This multi-year goal will require many hours of dedicated professional development for our teachers in order for us to fully embrace the Understanding By Design model using the Rubicon Atlas resource. The most recent School Committee meeting was dedicated to this topic. Kevin Cyr; Director of Teaching and Learning, Katie Ambroise and Kate Robertson; Middle School Curriculum Directors presented the tools we are using with a comprehensive overview of the work. They did an excellent job of breaking down the steps of the process as well as the rationale behind this time intensive endeavor. Please access this link to view their presentation. If you would like to view the entire School Committee meeting including the presentation, please access this link.

I am excited about the work that our professional learning community is committed to. Each time we have a rich conversation regarding what we teach and how we are teaching our students, it allows each of us to become more effective practitioners in our respective roles.

IF WE:

  • Build leadership capacity within the professionals of Lynnfield Public Schools, with an understanding that each of us has strengths to share and areas that need improvement

AND

  • Focus on strengthening our curriculum and instructional practices to continue to meet and exceed district and state standards, while focusing on meeting the needs of all students;

THEN, we will strengthen our foundation resulting in a stronger educational experience for all Lynnfield Public Schools students.

I thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your children to ensure a rich educational experience, as they make their journey through the Lynnfield Public Schools.

Warm Regards,

Jane

Just a thought:
