We are now one full month into the 2018-19 school year and are building strong educational momentum. September is full of many adjustments and a few events that provide some brief interruption to the traditional school day. Grade level meetings, school and bus evacuation practice, school pictures, Open House, and the first Rollerworld night are behind us. Students have acclimated to their new schedules, class routines, lockers, getting to/from school, and lunchtime. All staff are working to ultimately meet the educational and social/emotional needs of our students.
As we move further into the school year, we will be working towards the three goals set forth in our LMS School Improvement Plan. Many of these school goals are further supported by staff member goals and collaborative learning experiences.
Curriculum/Core Values Connections - Lynnfield Middle School will begin to implement our new Core Values (Kindness, Effort, Citizenship). This multi-step process will include identifying existing activities/structures and creating new activities/structures to advance Kindness, Effort, and Citizenship. The goal is to bring the core values to life throughout the building, from the day-to-day activities of classrooms to special whole school events.
Social Emotional Learning - Lynnfield Middle School will build a framework that provides for social emotional learning. This framework will foster the delivery of strategies and support for students across grades 5-8. Throughout middle school, challenges may stem from within the classroom as subject material becomes more complex and/or from social interactions as friendships and peer relationships evolve. The goal is to recognize these challenges and develop and implement supports and strategies for students and faculty.
Understanding by Design (UbD) - This goal is to implement year three of the UbD model district-wide to support continuous curriculum development and instructional excellence.
We are excited with the work ahead of us and value the professional development time we have dedicated towards these goals.
