We are now one full month into the 2017-18 school year and are building strong educational momentum. September is full of many adjustments and a few events that provide some brief interruption to the traditional school day. Grade level meetings, school and bus evacuation practice, school pictures, Open House, and the first Rollerworld night are behind us. Students have acclimated to their new schedules, class routines, lockers, getting to/from school, and lunchtime. All staff are working to ultimately meet the educational and social/emotional needs of our students.
As we move further into the school year, we will be working towards the three goals set forth in our LMS School Improvement Plan:
Understanding by Design (UbD) - This goal is to implement year two of the UbD model district-wide to support continuous curriculum development and instructional excellence.
Student Resiliency - This goal is to develop programming and support at LMS to build student resiliency. By providing students with a variety of support strategies, students will be better able to face both academic and social adversity. Through faculty training, teachers and staff will be better equipped to handle student challenges as academic content and social interactions become more complex.
Curriculum/Core Values Connections - This goal is to advance the LMS curriculum to connect with our Core Values. By integrating connections within our curriculum across all subject areas and grade levels to the LMS Core Values/STARS (Self Advocacy, Tolerance, Achievement, Respect, Service), students will become more aware and apt to act in a responsible manner.
We are excited with the work ahead of us and value the professional development time we have dedicated towards these goals.
