Looking back ten years ago, communication from LMS to parents was largely via the printed and mailed PTO newsletter. A big step for us was migrating the monthly newsletter online and just mailing out monthly postcard reminders. Oh have times changed. One of our goals this year at LMS is to provide enhanced communication and accessibility for parents. We have realized some successes in this endeavor via the continued online sign-ups for parent-teacher conferences in the fall. Our employment of Twitter, Facebook, Rediker Portals Plus and email blasts have also provided more timely notifications and coverage of LMS events. With all of these methods in place, we still strive to improve our communication.
Last year, we hosted periodic Conversations Over Coffee to afford an opportunity to meet directly with other parents and administration. There were no set agendas for the coffees, but rather an open forum for discussion. Although lightly attended, discussions included standardized testing, exploratory courses, social media, curriculum, technology, and school safety. As we begin our planning for the next school year, we welcome any feedback/suggestions as to how we might enhance and/or improve communication (including hosting coffees). Please do not hesitate to let us know.
Please know that Mr. Sallee and myself, as well as our curriculum directors, Kate Robertson (English/Humanities/Social Studies) and Katie Ambroise (Math/Science) are always available and willing to discuss any issue...or just to say hello.
