As we enter February, this has certainly been the winter without an identity. We have endured bitter, arctic cold in late December, a bomb blizzard in early January, and a very mild springlike stretch since. All three elements are sure to repeat themselves before late March.
Also, by late March, we will begin our transition processes at LMS. Students in grades 5-7 will receive course registration forms for electives (primarily music offerings). Additionally, students in grade 5 will select a foreign language to study (Spanish or French). Eighth graders will soon begin the scheduling process for LHS. This will include a presentation to students on Feb. 1, parent information night at LHS on Feb. 5, and honors placement testing after February vacation. The complete listing and timelines are contained in the LHS Program of Studies that will be distributed to students on Feb. 1. Finally, our transition for incoming 5th graders will also begin in late March with initial communications being sent home to parents.
What I have just described is a snapshot preview for what parents can expect. This is just one component of our entire transition process. There are countless data meetings and transition sharing meetings between staff at different grade levels along with administration input. The process is one we continually work to improve to have students placed best for success in their next year.
