Principal’s Message, January 2019:
Recently, I have received some valid feedback concerning our student drop off and pick up routing and procedures. I would like to take this opportunity to address some drop off practices that frustrate other drivers and also compromise the safety of our students. At the onset of each year, we remind everyone of our arrival/dismissal procedures. Part of this statement is as follows:
All students should be dropped off/picked up in the designated and marked area adjacent to the main parking lot. Please pull forward so that multiple cars can load/unload simultaneously. Students may not be dropped off on Main Street.
I fully realize that we have a large number of students who are driven to/from school each day (more so in the winter) and that traffic can be a challenge. We need the cars to pull as far forward as possible in our loading zone (there is a large orange construction style sign) to maximize the number of cars that can load/unload at the same time. We have ordered some additional signage to remind parents to pull forwards. Often, this means driving past the drop off point closest to the door. When cars stop to wait at that closest point along the curb, traffic stops completely, more cars are backed up through the lot and onto Main Street, and more cars try to bypass this point by traveling down the center parking aisle. Students are then dropped off in locations where they must cross this line of automobile traffic. Winter is now upon us and the mornings are darker and may soon be icy as well. Our drop off/pick up guidelines are in place to keep our students safe and adherence to them is vital to that purpose.
